Can you make money online for free without spending a dime ? Yes.

Well, now you know that you can make money online for nothing, you may want to know how it is done.

You may be relieved to hear it's not rocket science, but you may be disappointed to learn that it does take some work. So how exactly is it done ? I should point out that this information is for beginners starting out their work at home careers, if you already have some experience in making money online then you can probably skip this post. I should also point out that this post relates to making money using Adsense and blogs and does not deal with subjects such as affiliate programs or working as a freelance.

First up, to make money blogging you will need a blog and to keep things free you will need a free blog with blogger - to get a free blogger blog just go to http://www.blogger.com/. Before you rush off to do this, however, you will need to decide what your blog is going to be about, so hang on until you have read the rest of this post before signing up with blogger.

Once you have decided what your free blog is going to be about and you have actually signed up, then you will need to get an Adsense account with Google. If you've already got an Adsense account then great you are ready to go. If you haven't got one then you are going to have to get one.

Second it would also be a good idea (but not essential) to get affiliate accounts with Amazon and Ebay. One way to get an account with Adsense is to sign up with Hubpages -you can sign up with Hubpages here - Hubpages - it's free, but if you write a few hubpages (one page articles about a subject of your choice) it will help with getting an Adsense account.

While waiting to get your Adsense account approved start creating your blog. Keep it simple, you don't need a fancy blog, some people even say that to make money a blog that looks boring even has some advantages over a snazzy professional-looking blog.

Thirdly, to make money online using a free blog,as I said before, then you need to decide what your blog is going to be about.

Blogging about social issues is all fine and dandy if all you want to do is let the world know what you think about stuff, but if you are blogging because you need or want to make money at home then you need to choose carefully. In the words of one smart bear - to make money blogging you need to target "high traffic/high converting keywords" then get backlinks to your blog using your keywords in the anchor text. (Explanation follows!)

Your make money blog doesn't need to have an enormous amount of content but it must target certain keywords.

So what does all this mean ?

1. "High traffic" = Choose a subject that lots of people are looking for.
2. "High converting keywords" = words that will cause lots of people to click on the Adsense ads. that will appear on your blog once you have got your Adsense account.
3. "Backlinks" = links back to your blog from somewhere else on the Internet
4. "Anchor text" = the words that people actually click on to get to your blog. You need the anchor text to be the keywords e.g. if you click on Warren Buffett this will take you to a site about billionaire investor Warren Buffett. "Warren Buffett" in this example is the anchor text and also the targeted keywords. The Warren Buffett site in question is trying to rise up through Google to eventually end up on page 1.

To help you in your quest to make money from home in your pajamas for free you will need to use certain tools/sites. The main site that people use to help them in their money making efforts is a site run by Google that helps you find interesting keywords and gives you an idea of how much advertisers are willing to pay for the ads. that will appear automatically on your blog once you have an Adsense account (N.B. Don't create a blog then immediately stick Adsense ads. on it - Google doesn't like sites that are made purely for the purpose of displaying ads., your site needs to provide genuine information to your visitors. If you ignore Google's terms and conditions you will soon find yourself without any visitors at all - so do as you're told!).

The interesting and useful Google site for finding keywords is - https://www.adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal - I will put up a post about how to use it later but there is no harm in having a look around in the meantime.

What is the number one thing to understand about making money online for free?

You need traffic ! If your site doesn't get any visitors then it is useless as far as making money is concerned. It may be a nice site full of wonderful information, but without readers then you are talking to yourself, which you probably do already.

So how do you get visitors to your blog ?

To get visitors to your blog you need to show up in the search results when people look for stuff on Google. If your blog is about stocks and shares then, when people type " stocks and shares " into Google then your site needs to show up in the results, otherwise no-one will ever find it (except your mom of course and assorted weird stalkers).

Not only does your site need to show up in Google's results it needs to be on the first page ! And not only does it need to be on the first page but preferably in the first 3 results ! So you can see that you may have your work cut out.

Here are some examples of keywords chosen at random to show which sites show up first for them (bear in mind that you will get different results depending on what part of the world you are in).

Keywords Example 1 : If I type in - make money blogging -, Google gives me 174 million pages to look at, all of which have something to do with 'make', 'money' or 'blogging' ! But the site that shows up as No. 1 at the top of the pile of possibilities (after the paid sponsored links) is problogger.net - problogger is probably the most famous make money blogger on the planet and he gets thousands of visitors each day because his site is no. 1 on Google.

Keywords Example 2 : If I type in - make money online - , Google gives me 165 million pages to look at. The site that is no. 1 is moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com - and no doubt he gets thousands of visitors every day too, each one keen to know how to make money online. Notice also that he is using a free blogger blog which, according to the professionals, is a waste of time because in their humble opinion you need to waste your money on Wordpress in order for Google to rank your blog highly. These professionals are clearly talking out of their nether regions as Mr MoneyMaker is living proof that you can get to no. 1 on Google for a very competitive term using a free blogger blog (blogger belongs to Google by the way) - so it is not a necessity to learn how to make pretty blogs using Wordpress.

Keywords Example 3 : If I type in "make money online for free" (note the quotation marks around the phrase) then Google gives me 155,000 pages to look at - a lot less ! (because of the quotation marks) and the site that comes out on top is makemoneyonlineforbeginners.blogspot.com - another free (and very ugly) blogger blog ! This particular site is run by an acknowledged expert in this field who goes by the name of Griz and his blog is highly recommended for all those who want to know the real info. on how to make money online blogging (particularly the archives).

One final point, this blog (i.e. the one you are reading now) does not rank anywhere at all for "make money online for free" or "make money online at home" etc... as it is a pretty new blog, but I am curious to see how long it will take for it to start showing up in Google's search results.

Please note that I am not recommending that you try and get to no. 1 for 'make money online' - go for something that brings in more money and has less competition. Did you know for example that 1.8 million people every month type "beds" into Google and 40,000 type in "adjustable beds". So there might be a market there.

So, to recap, to make money online for free you need to get the following

• A free blogger blog (like this one) (plus a hubpages account - not essential but recommended)
• An Adsense account
• A subject that you can write some posts about (your own words - not cut and paste as Google will not appreciate your attempts at plagiarization)
• Lots of backlinks (more about that later)
• Your blog needs to rise to page 1 of Google (this will take some time and effort)

Finally, how much money can you make online blogging for free ?

Well, I could say "how long is a piece of string"? But I prefer to say that a modest blog can bring in around $300 - $500 a month, that's around $10 - $17 a day and that is very achievable. Two modest blogs will earn you twice as much and ten will earn ten times as much, so if you have basic math skills then you can do the math ! The large professional blogs such as Techcrunch bring in millions but they are not run on a shoestring.

This was just a brief introduction to the fascinating subject of making money online.
