Make Money Online for Free - How Much Money Can You Make with a Blog or Website and Adsense?
In my previous post I asked the question "Can you make money online for free?" and I also answered the question in the affirmative - Yes you can make money online at home without spending a dime - to see the previous post you will need to click here - Make Money Online for Free.I explained that what you need is a free blog from blogger and an Adsense account. You also need to decide what you will blog about (for which the Adwords Keyword Tool will be a help) - it's best to blog about things that people might actually want to buy i.e. some product or service and also best to choose something where the competition is not too high. Blogging about computers and hoping to make a pile of money from your Adsense ads is not sensible. Choose something slightly less obvious such as antique lighting for example.
After you have got your blog, your Adsense account and your subject (you will probably also need a home - even if it is someone else's) then you actually need to write some interesting content and above all get some backlinks to your snazzy new blog ! As you are trying to make money for free then you need to get your backlinks without paying for them. There are apparently services that will get you backlinks for you, in exchange for cash, but this is not recommended as a) it will cost you money which you haven't got and b) it is frowned upon by Google and c) it is not necessary, stick with doing the work for yourself.
The reason you need the backlinks is because you want to rise up through Google and get to that holy of holies - page 1 ! The reason you need to get to page 1 is because you need traffic, also known as organic traffic or search engine traffic and page 1 is where the traffic is. Did you know for example that when people search for things on Google, that around 30- 40% of them click on the first result on page 1, around 20% click on the second result and the rest click on the results 3 - 10. So without traffic you are doomed !
Now the next question that springs to mind of course, once you have understood or heard that it is possible to make money at home from blogs for free, is how much money can you make ? Well, anywhere between 1 cent and tens of thousands of dollars each month. Are you surprised ? Well, I have to admit I was. I had no idea there was so much money to be made online with just a simple blog or website !The amount you will make will be closely related to the number of visitors you get to your blog (or blogs or website). So you understand the imperative need for traffic !
Now, how do I know that there are people that make tens of thousands of dollars a month from Adsense? Well, because they say so and I am a gullible soul. I also have some experience in this area myself and I have seen that if you get large numbers of visitors to your blog (I mean thousands a day not hundreds) then you can make a decent daily revenue from Adsense (by which I mean hundreds of dollars not thousands daily). But of course if you have more websites or blogs then you will get more visitors and therefore more clicks and more money from Adsense.
In order to 'prove' the veracity of this claim I scoured the Internet using nothing more than my computer and a broadband connection and discovered a very interesting video online by a person called Lisa Irby. I had not come across Lisa before, but I found her video and her website most illuminating, so much so in fact that I will put up a link to her website here - Lisa - thus procuring for her a backlink from my lowly (and lovely) blog for which I am sure she will be eternally grateful.
The subject of Lisa's excellent video was not 'how much you can make from Adsense. But rather how much she increased her Adsense earnings by making one or two changes to her site and how you can do the same. She mentioned that her 'tweaks' to her site increased her monthly Adsense revenue from $4500 to $6000 (July 2009 figures - it may have changed since) - thus, as you can see, she was already making $4500 a month from Adsense.
Some other figures Lisa mentions in her video. She has been blogging for 7 years, she gets a combined total of around 20,000 visitors a day on 3 sites but the niche she blogs about is not a particularly high-paying niche. She has a website about how to make a website and as she points out the people who visit her site are not overly inclined to click on ads. - so she could be making more if she were in a more profitable niche. Some quick math tells me that 20,000 visitors a day equates to 600,000 visitors a month - yikes ! And that with 600,000 visitors a month she is making $6,000 a month in Adsense earnings. I will assume that she is not paying for any advertising and so that means, if my math is correct, that she is earning around 1 cent per visitor. A nice round number but as Lisa explains in her video, her click-through rate is very low so another site could probably make a lot more. The moral of the story is Lisa is doing OK, but don't choose the same niche as her as there are better niches that pay more (see Adwords Keyword Tool).
So, without further ado, here is Lisa's video about how to improve your Adsense earnings. It is also interesting even if you are not making any money from Adsense yet, as it gives a good insight into how the whole blogging thing works.
It should also be borne in mind that Lisa has not got to where she is at right now for free. She has clearly spent money to make money, on web hosting for example and programs she has bought. My aim, however, is to see how easy or difficult it is to make money online for free.
